IMM-Meta Tags WordPress Plugin
Meta tagging a WordPress-powered site is no simple feat. We first tackled the issue of keyword meta tags with IMM-Keywords. IMM-Keywords lets you apply keyword meta tags to your posts without having to edit any code or templates. But then we realized that keywords weren’t the only meta tags people might want to edit and decided to take the simple approach to meta tagging that makes IMM-Keyword unique and apply it to all meta tags.
The result is IMM-Meta-Tags. So which meta tags are handled by IMM-Meta-Tags you ask? Quite simply… just about all of them:
- Author
- Content Language
- Copyright
- Description
- Distribution
- Generator
- Keywords
- Rating
- Reply to
- Revisit after
- Robots
- Subject
- Title
VERSION 1 (released May 28, 2007)
MAJOR FEATURES
- Edit your meta tags without modifying code or templates!
- Each meta tag is customizable - you can put whatever you want into them
- Meta tags can be deactivated if you’d rather not use them
- Multiple options for description meta tags
- “Smart” tags change depending on the type of page
DESCRIPTION META TAG
The IMM-Meta Tag plug-in gives you a couple of options for displaying descriptions:
- Use an excerpt of the page/post (you specify how many words to use)
- Create a generic description and put it on all pages
- Specify custom descriptions on each post
“SMART” TAGS
What do we mean by smart tags? Smart tags use the type of page being displayed to determine which meta content to display. Single posts can have meta tags specific to them. But what about the index page or archive pages, etc?
Using smart tags is easy. Just fill in default information for all of your meta tags. The tags that are customizable will show up in the writer admin when you create or modify posts and pages. By specifying custom data in the writer admin, you over ride the default for that page.
Here’s an example:
Default keywords supplied in IMM-Meta Tags Options: “plugin, wordpress, blog”
Specific keywords supplied in writer admin for Post 10: “cat, dog, bear”
The index page of your site will display “plugin, wordpress, blog”.
Post 10 will display “cat, dog, bear”.
NOTE: Any pages or posts that do not have specific keyword, author, or description meta tags will use the default values entered!
INSTALLATION AND USE
- Download and extract the zip file

I have installed IMM-Meta Tags on two of my wordpress sites and on just one of them it prevents the site from showing. All I get is a blank page! Disabling IMM-Meta Tags gets the site back. They use different themes so maybe this is the problem or possibly a plugin conflict.
Anthony: which theme are you using? And are you using any plugins that modify the meta data on the site?
I am using Cutline 1.1 with these plugins.
Adsense-Deluxe
Akismet
Enforce www. Preference
Google Sitemaps
Search Meter
SEO_Wordpress
Ultimate Tag Warrior
WordPress Database Backup
I am using the same plugins with my other site at http://love-guides.com with no problem with IMM-Meta Tags.
Forgot to mention; http://love-guides.com uses the theme Suhweet 1.0 + Widgets and has no problem with IMM-Meta Tags.
I have just tested your IMM-Keywords plugin and used it in one post on the affected site (which uses Cutline 1.1) and this also stopped the web page from loading. It seems to erase all the html for the page for some reason. No other Meta tag plugins were used either.
I have some more questions I’d like to ask you, Anthony. But I’d rather do it through email. I’m going to use the email address you used to leave these comments but if that’s not the best one, drop me a line and let me know.
OK
Will this plugin allow you to add all keyword, description and title tags on individual terms for the glossary plugin?
Since the glossary terms are not stored on published WordPress pages the meta tag plugin won’t add anything to those pages.
The glossary plugin dynamically creates a “page” with terms on it… but they’re not permanent, published pages that WordPress recognizes. They are generated on a “as-clicked” basis.
ok thanks.
Are the glossary pages/terms able to be seen by google still?
The main glossary page is - as long as you have a link to it somewhere (like in a menu). All of your terms are listed on those pages so they’ll get indexed.
The individual pages will depend on how you have them set to display. If you’re using the Dynamic AJAX pop-up (like we use here), Google will not be able to see them. If, however, you’re using the standard pop-up (that opens a whole a new browser window) or the No Pop-up option, Googlebot will trigger those pages to dynamically generate as it crawls your site. So in those cases, Google will see the terms pages.
Does that make sense?
[…] IMM-Meta Tags: If you want to get to the top in searches with search engines, this one helps you doing that. You could see the title of this article added at the top left hand corner of the browser, this plugin does that apart from helping to display an excerpt of the page/post in searches. The IMM-Meta-Tags plugin makes editing and customizing just about any meta tag on your site a snap. No code editing is required. Pick and choose the meta tags you want to use. You can enter default values and enter custom values on posts and pages. I prefer IMM-Meta Tags than All in One SEO Pack for this functionality. Instructions for installation and use, download link etc., can be had from Internet Marketing Monitor’s Meta Tags Home page. […]
Very nice plugin. Simple to install and simple to use. Kudos.
Hey guys, thanks for an awesome plugin. I’ve recently ran into a major problem with it and I wanted to ask you for help.
The IMM-Metatags plugin has worked great on my Wordpress 2.2 blog (Mandigo theme) until I noticed a major bug: when someone would leave a comment on one of the posts, the ‘Description’ and ‘Keywords’ meta tags are reset to the defaults.
Basically, posts with no comments retain the keywords and descriptions that I set for that specific blog post. But once someone comments, these tags are reset to the tags specified in Options–>IMM Meta Tags.
Any help?
Thanks in advance!
