May 01, 2007
In addition to today’s Internet Marketing Monitor coverage, we felt these stories were worth pulling out of the multitude of news items for May 1, 2007:
There’s some good information here. I’ve been curious about Google Audio Ads from day one and there’s just not a lot of reliable information about them out there. I like that Google took the opportunity to clear up any confusion about whether or not the ads are actual radio ads… like on a regular radio station… like you listen to the in car. I’ve always thought that a lot of folks might think these were Internet-based audio ads so it’s nice to see that addressed directly.
Can’t say I’m surprised. Google and Yahoo, the more mature of the group, usually make things pretty easy. Live.com and Ask.com are notorious for providing little to no webmaster help. Where’s the Ask.com Webmaster Central? Where’s the Live.com Site Explorer? Yeah… that’s what I thought. But if you’re looking for some ideas on how to get your content out of the search engines (even the ones that make it difficult), there are some good pointers and techniques here that are worthy of your time.
Last month Comcast was reportedly in talks with Microsoft to replace Google Search with MS’s Live Search in 2008. Currently, Comcast has a search deal with Google that concludes at the end of 2007. Comcast doesn’t like the amount of money it’s getting from Google and, at the time, was supposedly fishing Microsoft for a better deal. I didn’t think that was a good idea. Live.com is hardly a viable replacement for Google. I’d be much more supportive of a switch to Yahoo… which is a viable Google replacement. Maybe Andy Beal is on to something here. Hey Comcast… Yahoo is a much better choice if you’re looking to break away from Mountain View.
Apparently there might be some merit to the alarm some webmasters experienced when they recently saw their PageRanks drop to zero. While Google assures us that alarm is not neccissary, Adam Lasnik has told WebmasterWorld forum members that he will be investigating whether or not something went wrong with the most recent PR update. So if your PageRank dropped to zero - and you’ve seen no decrease in traffic - stay tuned to Search Engine Roundtable or the WebmasterWorld thread for updates from Google.
Google will be migrating AdSense accounts over to full-fledged Google accounts. The rollout will be spread out so don’t expect to see any changes to your account right away. When it’s time for you to migrate, you’ll see a different landing page after signing in to your AdSense account that will prompt you to migrate. Day one of May is beginning to wind down. Where has the year gone? In a matter of weeks we’ll be halfway done with 2007. Craziness. All of it! Enjoy your Wednesday night and we’ll see you back here bright and early tomorrow morning!
