One of the ways that the Internet Marketing Monitor gives back to the WordPress community is by publishing WordPress plugins (I should say “plugin”… our other projects are still in the testing stage).

That’s why it gives me great pleasure to announce the immediate availability of Version 2.0 of the IMM-Glossary plugin!

We’ve been thrilled with the popularity of the first version of the IMM-Glossary plugin and we know that this new version is going to be ever better.

The IMM-Glossary plugin is an easy way to help keep your readers informed. All you have to do is add terms and their corresponding definitions to your glossary (by way of the WordPress “Manage” dashboard). The IMM-Glossary plugin does the rest and links your terms to their definitions automatically when you publish a post. For an example, put your mouse of the word SEO here.

Users of previous versions will notice a different behavior for displaying definitions… and that’s just one of the many changes, bugfixes, and improvements that have been made:

NEW FEATURES

  • WordPress 2.1 compatibility!Options
  • Three options for displaying definitions: 1) the old way (no popups - link to a new page) 2) JavaScript popup window 3) DHTML tooltip (seen here at the Internet Marketing Monitor).
  • Four options for term link style! Let your readers know that a word is defined by choosing to have terms styled with a standard underline, double underline, dotted underline, or no underline.
  • Customizable look and feel using included CSS - simply modify them to match your blog’s theme!
  • You can now choose whether or not you want to display an icon next to terms in your content if you are using the “no popup” option.

IMPROVEMENTSManage terms

  • Much better handling of permalinks. The plugin now detects your permalink structure and applies it to all generated links.
  • Better parsing of text to ensure the plugin only links to terms in plain, unlinked, visible text.
  • If icons are displayed, a tooltip alerts readers that clicking the icon will open a new window.

BUG FIXES

  • The definition pages no longer links back to the main glossary page. Instead, links now point back to whatever page the reader was previously on (only applies if “no popup” option is used).
  • Terms are no longer linked to from inside alt text, image titles, etc.
  • General code cleanup and numerous small bugfixes

We’re very pleased with this new version. If you’re currently using the IMM-Glossary plugin this is a must-have upgrade! If you’re not using it, this is version to try out.

As always, if you run into any problems, have any suggestions, or other feedback, don’t hesitate to let us know.
