By now you've probably heard that Yahoo is changing the way advertisers describe their sites starting in May.  Instead of leaving the decision about whether to use a short description or a long description up to site owners, Yahoo is going to start requiring the short description.

That's a dumb move.

One of the things that Yahoo! did better was the fact that they let you explain your site better than Google did.  So instead of 190 characters to tell you what my site is about, I'll soon have only 70.  And if you don't provide a short description, Yahoo will chop your long description off after 70 characters and make its own short description.

Why would they change this?  I have an idea.

Because this is the way Google does it.  And I've said on a couple of other occassions, Yahoo just loves to play follow the leader.

Hey Yahoo!  Why can't you just be different for once?
