Google has updated it's Local Business Center and added several new features.  The new features include:

  • Upload and edit photos associated with business listings
  • Businesses can choose the best category for their business
  • Add custom attributes to their listing
  • The ability to edit locations and adjust the pointer that indicates where their business is located
  • A sampling of analytical data

As Search Engine Watch points out, the analytical data is a sample of the more complete information that is available from within an AdWords account and is most likely being offered to entice business owners into obtaining full AdWords accounts.

Google hopes to be able to capture more of the small business market (which is still largely untapped by the major search engines).  By offering business owners a way to see how their companies are benefiting from the Internet, Google would stand a good change of acquiring more advertising dollars from the small business sector.
