Google Still Searching For Recognition in D.C. (Washington Post)

  • While he may be "the man" in Sillicon Valley and on Wall Street, Google CEO Eric Schmidt hardly makes a dent in Washington, D.C.  Lawmakers were less impressed with Schmidt's speech than, as the Washington Post put it, the House Speaker's "outfit" at the State of the Union Address.

Facebook Does Deal with Comcast (Screenwerk)

  • I agree with Sterling - this could turn out to be a big deal for Facebook.  And a pretty smart move considering many think their resistance to buyouts last year wasn't the smartest decision.

NBC's Zucker Lashes Out at YouTube (Financial Times)

  • What did I say the other day?  Viacom was just the beginning.  And it just shows that, even with King Google at the reins, intellectual property will continue to be a hurdle for any service that allows unfiltered, unmonitored uploading of digital content by users.

Live Search SOAP API - Updated (Live Search Blog)

  • Microsoft takes the Live Search API out of beta status & has added a host of new and updated features.

Diller Promises Big Investments in IAC Digital Originals (ClickZ)

  • So, after more than a decade away from the industry, Barry Diller, CEO of IAC/InterActiveCorp, has plans to branch into online video?  He's right about the lack of a good monetization strategy for user generated media.  Maybe IAC will be the one to figure something out.  His position on original content generation by corporations, not users, runs contrary to what many in the industry are saying.  What do you think?

How Eretailer Doubled Conversions With Better Web Analytics (MarketingSherpa)

  • As we've said numerous times, web analytics and statistics are all nice and good.  But you have to use them for the data collected to be of any real value.  This company learned first-hand that the benefit using that can be huge.

Voulez-vous…collaborate…avec moi ce soir? (Official Google Blog)

  • Google Docs & Spreadsheets now speaks 12 languages (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Turkish, Polish, Dutch, Portuguese (Brazil), and Russian.

New Yahoo Search Marketing Platform Deleting Advertiser Accounts (Marketing Pilgrim)

  • Hopefully this is just an isolated incident (which I'm sure doesn't make it any less of an issue for the person in question).  Small glitches are one thing but entire accounts being deleted is another.  This isn't the kind of press Yahoo needs about its latest search advertising efforts.

Searching For "The Next Google" (Search Engine Land)

  •  Chris Sherman presents an overview of the search-related demonstrations presented at the latest DEMO conference.

MySpace Love Triangle With Google and eBay (Read/Write Web)

  • Google… or eBay… Google… or eBay?  Which to choose.  MySpace is in a partnership with Google.  And it wants to be in a partnership with eBay.  But Google is apparently throwing a fit about it.  I think MySpace has a little more power here than most people are giving them credit for.  Does Google really want to lose all the millions of eyes their ads get at MySpace?

What Happened to the YouTube Empire We Were Promised? on February 21st, 2007 at 1:50 pm #

[…] YouTube seems to be going through a tough stretch these days.  The one-time darling of online media has been getting a lot of smack thrown its way lately.  First, pre-roll ads irritated some.  Then Viacom took its toys and went home.  Shortly thereafter, NBC came out swinging and Rupert Murdoch questioned the viability of YouTube.  […]
