Sometime in the past few days Google silently updated the interface for its Google Image Search service. The main difference in the new version is the reduction of "clutter" achieved by the removal of image details like URL, dimensions, size, and extension. Before and after photos are available at Google Blogscoped. When users search for images now, they are presented with rows of images and a short caption or content snippet under the image. To see details like URLs and dimensions, you have to move your mouse over the image. Various sources around the web are covering the news and reaction seems mixed. Some like the cleaner interface. Some miss the detailed information and feel that moving their mouse is too much work. I personally like the change. It's clean, it's simple, and it puts the image first.
