Are you familiar with the phrase Web 2.0?  Do you know what Web 2.0 means?  Do you know how you could Web 2.0-ize your website?  Chances are, if you're taking advantage of any of the new emerging online medias, you're employing Web 2.0 tactics whether you know it or not.

But knowing what Web 2.0 is and putting it to use are two different things and, according to a report by ClickZ, the majority of marketers aren't even familiar with the term.

Generally speaking, Web 2.0 refers to a growing set of online tools and services aimed at providing interaction, creation, and sharing abilities to users.  Online video sharing, blogs, photo services, and social networking sites are all examples of Web 2.0 services.  They give users the ability to connect with and share things with others, sometimes from across the globe.  For a more detailed examination of Web 2.0, check out Wikipedia's entry on the subject.

I've mentioned the necessity of online marketers and website owners to harness the growing popularity of Web 2.0 services several times.  It seems like you can't throw a broadband modem these days without hitting a new service that promises to provide more interactive features to users.  The creators of these services are obviously familiar with Web 2.0.  But it would appear that the major marketers aren't.

How can you take advantage of their ignorance?  Simple:  beat them to the punch.  According to the article at ClickZ, 21% of the marketers responding to the survey they're covering said their Web 2.0 initiatives were unfunded.  That means it's more than possible to add some interactivity to your site with little or no real investment.  Remember all of the times we've talked about soliciting feedback and talking to customers?  These interactive features are exactly what Web 2.0 is all about.

Get the jump on the "big guys" and get those Web 2.0 marketing dollars flowing.  It's a rare opportunity that you can't afford to not take advantage of.
