I've spent a lot of time lately talking about all the new and different ways to drive traffic and increase conversion rates.  Podcasting… blogs… video… mobile advertising.  I think a successful marketing campaign should cover all of these bases.  But I know a lot of people probably wonder if these sources of marketing potential are even worth the time.

According to a study conducted by Bluestreak, Inc., consumers are using new forms of digital tools in increasing numbers.

The survey, which polled almost 1000 internet users on their online habits, found that podcasting, RSS, blogs, and message boards where used by large percentages of the online population.  In fact, almost 100% of the respondents said that email was necessary to their daily lives.  In addition, 67% said the same about email, 51% about RSS, 49% about message boards, and 46% about blogs.  RSS, text messaging, blogs, message boards, and podcasting were all used more for personal reasons than business, and email was primarily used for both.

That's all nice and good.  But the point is marketing to these users, right?

The Bluestreak survey has extensive statistics on consumers opinions about advertising.  Of particular interest are the responses Bluestreak received in regard to a question asking respondents about the number of advertisements they'd seen online.  Other than text message advertisements, which were overwhelmingly frowned upon, consumers where split as to whether or not the quantity of advertisement was too much or just right.  This shows widespread acceptance of advertising in exchange for service and content by consumers.  Similarly, other than for text message ads, consumer feelings towards the companies that sponsor advertisements were primarily positive or neutral.

The information presented above only features a selection of the figures collected by the study.  I'd highly recommend taking a look at the results while planning your marketing strategies.  In a year I anticipate even higher usage percentages and, because of increased frequency, even more consumer acceptance of online media marketing.

You can't afford to miss these opportunities.  We're talking about millions of potential customers.

Millions.
